that's a wrap!

...and with just days to spare before the christmas craziness begins! i have graduated from college! hallelujah! are those angels i hear on the horizon? or is my mom laughing angelically about the fact that her bank account may now resume to its normal balance...

SO it's 7 days until Santa fits his big behind down the chimney and it's time to get to wrapping up some gifts! panic mode has not yet hit me, but i know it's lingering somewhere outside. maybe sitting on my lilpad chair on the front porch.
as 2010 comes to a close, i just want to give a big thanks to my sweet readers & everyone who follows me via facebook. 2011 will surely hold more blogging, more projects, more ideas, more educational posts & defintely lots more kerrent advice & musings from yours truly! happy holidays to you and yours. please stick around to see what's in store for the new year!

hello? is anyone still there...? HELP!

hi, friends! this will be a quick post, but i hope you'll give me some feedback nonetheless! as many of you know, i can't stand for the apartment to be arranged the same way for too long. i pretty much change it every few months, sometimes more. just ask my roomie. unfortunately, living in the same apartment for close to 4 years with all the same furniture can take its toll on the old creativity part of my brain. any variation in the arrangement i can dream up, i try!

and so needless to say, i've finally reached the point where i'm just plain stumped. i can't think of any new, interesting way to rearrange! i'm so sick of the furniture, but i'm not really at a place where i want to make any investments or at least my bank account isn't. and then there's my couch-well don't EVEN get me started. it is essentially the bane of my existence. the ugliest couch that ever lived. a big floral monstrosity, but not really this bad. now that being said, it is also the most comfortable couch you will ever rest your little behind on. so, for now, it stays.

take a gander at my estate & tell me what you think. how should i rearrange? what pieces should i switch up? i'm totally open to suggestions!

a few warnings before you take a look:

1. we'll consider these 'before' pictures which means that i did not stage or jazz anything up before the picture was taken. trust me, this will make the 'after' pictures look particularly fantastic for you
2. none of the furniture pictured is a purchase i've made myself. all hand-me-downs & proud of it!
3. yes, i realize it is the girliest, flowery-est little apartment ever. once again, not entirely what i would have chosen, but all FREE to me!
4. so basically, be nice with your input and don't rip on the furniture too hard! i still have to live with it no matter what you say!

there's a little panaromic view of the living area & here are some other pictures i've shot at different times so you can see close-ups of the furniture we're workin with:
*notice there are no close-ups of the couch. it simply doesn't deserve that kind of recognition

the one space i am semi pleased with is my bedroom...but i'm open for a switch-a-roo in there as well!

so there you have it! leave a comment or two & give me some ideas! i would love to get a fresh take on this stale, little space.

OH and i almost forgot. this club chair is up for auction! i've had it for almost 10 years, but honestly don't know if i've ever sat in it once! it is in great condition! it's covered in a durable pierre deux fabric and would be oh so cute in a little girl's room or if you're crafty and know how to recover, then you could take on a fun project! i'll even throw in the pillow :)

bonjour, amoureux de textile!

hello, fabric lovers! it's been awhile, huh? lots of distractions lately, but here i am. in full force!

so to change things up a bit i'd like to make a post that shows off my art history skillz. ya know, just to show my mom that i have a little interest in my major that i've been studying for 5.5 years now. hey, mom! look at me! i'm an art historian!

no! that's not me, silly! that's paule marrot! i was introduced to paule marrot (1902-1987) this past year in nyc while selena and i were at market. how could i have missed out on this french textile designer for SO very long?! her textiles and paintings are absolutely beautiful. simplistic, but simply stunning & just enough whimsy to make you smile. you can tell that she just painted what made her happy-what every artist should do. lots of people think she's pretty neat. nike thinks so. natural curiosities thinks so too. & stupid anthropologie thinks so as well. (yea, i just called anthro stupid. what of it? that's a long post for another day.)

anyhoot, she began as a painter then started to veer towards textile design early in her career. let me just tell you that this lady and her family marketed her artwork WELL. from wallpaper and fabric, to perfume bottles and sneakers, marrot can be found just about everywhere. she's a really interesting lady too. & since i am graduating in december and never plan to ever write another paper on an artist again, i'll let you read about her here.

a marrot design doesn't work on everything though. i know clarence house rep'd some of her fabrics in the 90s, but i couldn't find any of them on their site. & this is probably why....

well, it was the 90s.

here are a few of my faves that i wanna share with y'all-just a few because the really great ones are copyrighted. enjoy. oh and the works shown are all reproductions on linen. (sorry for the lack of dates. big faux pas, i know)

Merr Clouds

Merr Abst

Les Toits de Montmarte

Plumes

Fete

this one in particular brings to mind a folk artist from Georgia named Nellie Mae Rowe. Nellie deserves a little post of her own at some point too, huh? (i'm not supposed to call an artist by their first name. art historian faux pas #2)

Picking Berries

just love those colors so much, don't you? what's that you say? you want some inexpensive paule marrot designs in your life? well just your luck, caspari put out some pretty paper products this summer with her designs. go pick some up at whole foods! or better yet, get the nikes if you're really cool. see you later...jobin.
